An Empty Gunny Bag Cannot Stand / Goni vid pa Kapav Dibout
An inventive food-growing initiative led by artists Angus Farquhar & Rudy Kanhye. Presented by Aproxima Arts and SWG3.
In one Glasgow neighbourhood…
120 coloured hessian sacks hand cut and stitched
2 tons of soil and 300 potatoes planted
Handed down the street to be looked after…
Growing together in isolation,
Till one day we open a chip shop to feed the city!
Originally intended to take place in the green space that fringes the SWG3 complex, the artists have responded creatively to the lockdown situation, finding an inspiring way for people to continue to work collectively in isolation.
120 brightly-coloured hessian bags, designed by SWG3 studio residents Trakke, and sewn by residents in Angus’s neighbourhood, Kelvindale, have been planted with potatoes and grown on front doorsteps all the way down Angus’s street and in backcourts around SWG3.
After tending to them for four months, we’ll bring the patties to SWG3 and get together for an outdoor harvest party and feed the people of Glasgow for free with truly local produce from our mobile chip shop.
