Legendary artist Yoko Ono has been unveiled as the latest artist to present a new work as part of the SWG3 x Jim Lambie Billboard Project.
Curated by artist Jim Lambie and SWG3, the project takes the 12-metre-wide billboard — installed on the Galvanizers' corrugated steel gable end during The New York Times Climate Hub, in November 2021 — and transforms it into a blank canvas.
Now, Yoko Ono's striking DREAM work will take pride of place on the billboard, with the piece being unveiled to coincide with the start of the Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Art, which takes place from June 7 to June 23 2024. Remaining in place until the end of the year, the installation will provide art lovers across the city and beyond with a unique opportunity to see the legendary artist’s work on a large scale.
As Scotland's biennial festival of contemporary art, every two years, Glasgow International presents a programme of national and international artists, amplifying the city's identity as a vibrant and distinctive centre for artistic production, and SWG3 will also host a special SWG3 X Glasgow International Party on Friday June 7, where guests will be able to enjoy live music from Optimo, Mozart Estate, Pleasure Pool, and more, alongside a special preview of the programme. The evening will begin with drinks on the Warehouse Terrace for the opening of the exhibition Martin Beck: Last Night, which will be hosted at SWG3 until Sunday June 23 2024. This 13 hour video documents every record played by musical host David Mancuso 40 years ago, on June 2 1984, at one of the last parties at the 99 Prince Street location of seminal New York dance party known as The Loft.
Tickets for the SWG3 x G.I party can be purchased here.
