Held on Friday 7 June at SWG3 Galvanizers and TV Studio, the party will feature a range of live music, as well as a special preview of Martin Beck’s video work Last Night.
A stacked musical line-up heads along for the evening, where Louise X will open for Mozart Estate, who will perform live in the Galvanizers. In the TV Studio, emerging Glasgow trio Brenda will bring an energetic set of pop punk, followed by musical collective Pleasure Pool, and the legendary DJ duo J.D. Twitch and J.G. Wilkes aka Optimo, who will keep the party going until 3am.
The night will also be a chance to catch a glimpse of Martin Beck's video work Last Night, which will be hosted at SWG3 until Sunday 23 June 2024. Artist Martin Beck's 13 hour video documents every record played by musical host David Mancuso 40 years ago, on June 2, 1984, at one of the last parties at the 99 Prince Street location of seminal New York dance party known as The Loft. Both full length and condensed screenings will take place across June.
On top of the party, SWG3 is honoured that iconic artist Yoko Ono will be the next in a series of artists to present their work as part of The Billboard Project, a project by Jim Lambie and SWG3. Ono’s famous and striking work, DREAM, will be installed on the side of the Galvanizers from the start of the G.I. festival, until the end of the year.
Glasgow International is such an amazing festival for Glasgow and one we always look forward to. We are proud to be hosting such a diverse programme crossing performance, visual art and music and once again hosting the legendary Friday night opening event. We look forward to welcoming everybody to the venue for an incredible evening to celebrate the start of the festival.
