Yardworks residents create Grandmaster Flash mural

Two of Yardworks' resident artists have teamed up to create a large colour mural of hip-hop legend Grandmaster Flash.

The large artwork, which has been sprayed onto the entrance gates to SWG3 Galvanizers Yard, has been created by Yardworks resident artists Guzler, and PizzaBoy. Guzler's work typically consists of colourful and creative tags, whilst PizzaBoy often incorporates elements of Americana culture into large murals and tags. Both artists have now come together to pay homage to the hip-hop legend, ahead of his Birth Of A Culture show – which takes place at SWG3 on Friday 13 October 2023.

As the founding member of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Flash – who was born Joseph Robert Saddler, is widely credited with helping take hip-hop and rap culture from the streets of the Bronx to the mainstream masses, in a time where it mainly existed and was viewed only as a street movement.

Now, he is back, and ready to take everyone on an unforgettable journey through the birth, evolution, and cultural impact of hip-hop, in his Birth Of A Culture show. Birth Of A Culture is more than just a concert – it's a multimedia extravaganza, complete with stunning visuals, thought-provoking narratives, and interactive elements that'll have everyone itching to get on the dance floor. It is an audio-visual feast that pays homage to the genre's luminaries, celebrates its rebellious spirit, and embraces the cultural significance that hip-hop holds dear.

Local DJ HomeAlone will be opening up the show, playing a selection of hip-hop classics, and then a special guest will take to the stage, before Grandmaster Flash performs.
