The Art Car Boot Sale is back, taking over SWG3 inside and outside on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June 2022. Here's everything you need to know about Scotland's biggest contemporary art market.
Art Car Boot Sale is Scotland’s biggest contemporary art market, with contemporary artists from all styles and disciplines pulling up at SWG3 to sell their latest work from the boot of the full range of Glasgow’s finest art transport: camper vans, transits, cars and bikes.
What sort of art can I buy?
From limited edition prints to handmade ceramics, the range of work on show is truly eclectic. Artists with work in major collections around the world display alongside emerging stars of the future; printmakers and painters sit alongside photographers and sculptors. With a real mix of unique works on show, particularly exciting is the chance to get your hands on limited editions, one-off pieces, and new work coming box-fresh from the artists’ studios.
Highlights of this year's list of artists include Louise Gibson, Beth Shapeero & Fraser Taylor (Two-Step), Marietta Mavrokordatou, Claire Barclay, Daisy Richardson, Toby Paterson, Claire Barclay, Kate V Robertson, Christine Borland, Calum Craik, Laura Aldridge, Sam Ainsley, Rachel Duckhouse, Chris Bryant, Alex Allan, Lorna McIntyre, Charlie Hammond, Lotte Gertz, Leontios Toumpouris, Rachel Duckhouse, Tessa Lynch, Rachel Adams, Rhona Warwick Paterson and Luke Fowler.
Alongside this, exhibiting organisations include Patricia Fleming Gallery, Douglas Gordon for SWG3, Sculpture Placement Group, Fruitmarket Editions, 16 Nicholson Street Gallery and Bibliotheek Books.
Will the artists be there?
Yes. Each artist attends their own stall, so the event is a chance not only to own a unique new artwork, but to meet the maker, and talk to them directly about their work.
What sort of prices are we talking?
Affordable ones. The Art Car Boot Sale prides itself on offering something for everyone. With prices ranging from £5—£500, there'll be many very affordable pieces you can take home without breaking the bank.
What else will be going on?
Mostly eating and drinking. Running alongside the market, there’ll be food and drink on offer throughout the venue, including our new Acid Bar residents Nomad serving up woodfired pizzas both indoors and on our brand new outdoor terrace at the back of our building, which opens to the public on Fri 24 June. Go through the foyer, up the steps, and get a seat, a drink and some street food in what is going to be the city's best new secret sun-trap.
Do I need a ticket?
Yes. Tickets are £5, and we highly recommend booking in advance as it’s always a popular event. Under 16s go free, and don't need a ticket. We will also hold tickets for the door — keep an eye on the Art Car Boot Sale and SWG3 social media on the day for the latest information.
