Art is for everyone. And art has the power to transform, connect, energise, inspire and create meaning. Street arts in particular are a breeding ground for creativity; accessible, immediate, wide-ranging and expressive, it’s the perfect art form for a wide range of creative projects.
Our community work ranges from projects with schools and community groups, to initiatives with marginalised groups, to creative workshops for young people with fewer opportunities, helping them to discover their talent and recognise potential career paths, as well as providing a safe and legal way for them to express themselves. Through our diverse projects, we hope to encourage social change, provide opportunity and transform lives.
In a year peppered with lockdowns and restrictions, Yardworks Govan brought some life, connectivity and colour to young people and other members of the community in Govan, through a wide range of workshops and activities centred on street art practice and designed to develop artistic skills and confidence. We've had the pleasure of being part of a wealth of community spirit, and teamed up with some brilliant community-led organisations and initiatives.
In Partick, we've recently been working with local residents and community groups to develop designs for four large public art spaces. After an intensive and creative consultation process, we've found out what the community want to see on their walls, and will be refreshing existing work with new and exciting murals. We're also working with locals to design artwork for billboards as part of this year's Yardworks Festival.
In the southside of the city, we've collaborated with initiatives and institutions from Shawlands Academy to #myshawlands on diverse projects, working with some talented young people to add to the rich tapestry of street art in the area.
Closer to home, we regularly host some wildly creative, educational and, we hope, enjoyable workshops, talks and introduction days, bringing the inspirational power of street art to a wide group of people.
