Yardworks 2020 postponed

With this year's Yardworks Festival postponed due to Covid-19, we caught up with festival founder Gaz Mac to look back on some of the good times.

Yardworks Festival was expected to return for the fourth year this weekend with more global street artists, bigger murals and additional activities for all to enjoy. We look forward to this epic weekend of street art and culture every year, so we spoke to festival founder Gaz Mac to help us look back on some of the good times. Stay home, stay safe and see you next year, and let's keep the bright colours flowing through these times.

What will you miss the most about Yardworks not happening this weekend?

I've already been missing the buzz surrounding the build up to the festival, the whole crew behind it. We have everyone down from marketing to media, scaffolders to spray painters. I'll miss these guys.

What unique features were being introduced this year that hadn't been seen at Yardworks before?

Painting the railway arches down Eastvale Place was a huge addition this year. Another plus was a more established gallery space in the arches, which we'll still open over time and will be a great opportunity for the talent we see on our walls to show us some of their finer works.

What are the future plans for Yardworks?

We have so many projects that have been put on hold: Peeta, a Venice based graffiti artist coming over to install a piece of work for Glasgow University’s new Research Hub, as well as the Cobolt Collective who have created an amazing mural for the staircase.

I do hope to put on some sort of smaller-scale Yardworks event, if the science allows it. I do have to thank everyone who continues to back Yardworks Festival. I think we are all looking forward to getting back and putting the paint on our walls some time soon.
