Queer History of Dance Music head to The Poetry Club on Friday 13 December 2024, to celebrate the legendary Sylvester.
The History of Disco is complicated; what started out as a genre rooted in the queer underground of San Francisco and New York soon evolved into the mainstream and with that, commercialisation and oversaturation. Yet, Sylvester truly represents the best of disco - with the genres’ roots in gospel, RnB and soul, as well as disco’s close connection to queerness, clearly evident in his work.
This event is strictly 18+. We accept two forms of ID: a driver's licence (either full or provisional), or a passport (this must be valid and in-date).
