Miss U: Trophy milk cartons
Wednesday 24 March 2021
Making time to show we care. We appreciate and want to recognise and give thanks to the kindness, hard work and strength of those that provide around us.
Trophy milk cartons is a digital workshop delivered by the established and talented MissU to a group of young people based in Govan. In this Yardworks Govan workshop, participants are invited to make art from discarded recycled household objects, making their very own art trophy which they can contribute to a public display as part of an exhibition, Woven in Govan.
The theme of the workshop is to create a message of gratitude to women who are caring for others, looking at the figures of Louisa Jordan and Mary Barbour for inspiration and sharing stories. Participants will consider acts of kindness and care, starting with the items we discard in our own homes, and how we can spread these acts in the community. It offers the chance to explore new materials that participants could take into other creative activities, and to learn about the resourcefulness of creating art from found objects - as well as opening up questions about the accessibility of art.
Ursula Kam-Ling Cheng - or Miss U - is a Northern-Irish born, Scottish-based illustrator and visual live drawing media artist. Ursula Kam-Ling Cheng is being commissioned as part of a cross continental socially engaged project with a WovenNetwork and Fablevision.
