Icelandic-born singer songwriter Laufey headlines SWG3 Galvanizers on Monday 12 February 2024.
Born in Iceland, but spending most of her childhood traveling between and the USA, Laufey, who was born Laufey Lín Jónsdottír, always had musicality in her life. Obsessed with her father record collection of jazz classics, she took up the cello and started to perform with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra aged just 15. Her enjoyment of performing saw her enter both Iceland's Got Talent, and The Voice, and whilst she never won either of the shows, fans were immediately attracted to the singer thanks to her instantly recognisable voice. A few years of quietly working away in the background followed, until 2020, when still a student at Berklee College of Music, she released her debut single Street by Street, which went on to top the Icelandic radio charts. From here, her stock has continued to grow, and has reached meteoric levels: She was named Best New Artist in Jazz and Blues at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2021, and hosted her own show on BBC Radio 3/BBC Sounds, before her debut full-length Everything I Know About Love, debuted at number on Billboard’s Alternative New Artist Album chart.
