Pioneering hip-hop legend Grandmaster Flash headlines SWG3 TV Studio on Friday 13 October 2023.

As the founding member of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Flash – who was born Joseph Robert Saddler, is widely credited with helping take hip-hop and rap culture from the streets of the Bronx to the mainstream masses, in a time where it mainly existed and was viewed only as a street movement. With the group's unique flows, and Flash's unique DJing skills, such as the art of scratching – which he perfected and quickly helped establish as a staple in late 70s and early 80s hip-hop tracks, they became one of the most influential acts in the history of hip-hop, and Flash's legacy in hip-hop culture has become impossible to ignore. In 2007, this influence was recognised, and Flash was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, alongside the Furious Five, where they became the first ever hip-hop and rap group to be inducted.

Now, he is back, and ready to take everyone on an unforgettable journey through the birth, evolution, and cultural impact of hip-hop, in his Birth Of A Culture show. Birth Of A Culture is more than just a concert – it's a multimedia extravaganza, complete with stunning visuals, thought-provoking narratives, and interactive elements that'll have everyone itching to get on the dance floor. It is an audio-visual feast that pays homage to the genre's luminaries, celebrates its rebellious spirit, and embraces the cultural significance that hip-hop holds dear.

Local DJ HomeAlone will be opening up the show, playing a selection of hip-hop classics, and then a special guest will take to the stage, before Grandmaster Flash performs.

This event is strictly 14+. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. One adult can attend with a maximum of two Under 16s.
