Laissez-Faire aim to compile new sounds of the UK underground dance scene with the work of up and coming artists. Formatted into a night long show which will showcase the work of exciting Glasgow based artist Raya Gray, accompanied by a collaborative playlist produced by Seph and Raya Herself. Following this let yourself be taken into the night with electronic music both old and new by Skaro and Seph.
Music: Skaro has been involved in the Glasgow music scene for many years playing at venues throughout the city. Expect Disco you never knew existed and rhythms that go beyond what we are all used to. Having played up and down the country for many years and with a strong background in ambient and techno, Seph in recent years has turned his focus to merging Dub, Techno, Disco and House.
Art: Working across multiple types of media and with a range of contemporary sources Raya Gray’s practice draws on the everyday, particularly the consumer and media culture of today. Her most recent work draws inspiration from a song titled ‘Dreaming of Florida’ by the Detox Twins. Sculptures made in response also act as props and costumes that feature in the likes of simulated adverts and album artworks. Generally, the work takes a pop but critical approach to the subjects, acknowledging that they can be problematic whilst also embracing them for what they are. Clichés that one might associate with somewhere like Florida are used to communicate the idea that the popular values, attitudes and beliefs of individuality and authenticity promoted by today’s media culture are just another part of material consumption.
